Favorite Posts of the Week – 5/4 Edition

My weekly round-ups are back!

Let’s just get right to it. Here are my favorite posts from the week of April 30th:

A Par-Tee for your golfer

My hubbie is an avid golfer and so this golf-themed Father’s Day party caught my eye. Of course, Mike and I aren’t parents yet, but this is definitely going into my Pinterest vault for the future. Loving the plaid design on the cake, and the printables are just perfect.

Girly, girl Princess Party

I’m a TOTAL girl inside and out so this party featured on Hostess with the Mostess had me wishing I was 5 years old again.  Actually, considering my obsession with Kate Middleton this party would still be fitting for my next  birthday party. Seriously though, how adorable is this birthday party? The Royal Princess Tutu’s (I want one!), elegant, monogrammed welcome easel, and glass slipper candy favors. The party was flawless and I’m sure tons of fun for the little girls who joined in on the fun.

Practical and Cute

Love this cute little find by MadeByGirl during her stop at the Traditional Home party at the New York Design Center. Take a a look at the rest of her post for photos of lovely vignettes, funky chairs, and more.

Inspiration everywhere, anywhere

Inspiration can come from anywhere.  I know we’ve all heard that before, but Chassity from Look Linger Love really showed us how it’s done. She created art inspired by some of her favorite things from her closet. I LOVE this idea and really want to try it myself. What do you think of Chassity’s source of inspiration?

Do or Don’t: Carpet

I thought the idea of carpet was dead. Wooden floors or even tile are what predominately appear in bedroom floors nowadays.  So why did I recently find myself carpet shopping at Home Depot?

Six months ago my hubbie and I (along with some amazing help from family) ripped out the nasty carpet in our master bedroom and replaced it with beautiful engineered hardwood floors. We splurged! It’s gorgeous and has changed the look of our room, but it was expensive and REALLY painstaking as a DIY project.

We still have the gross, stained brown carpet in our office and guest bedroom which I’m DYING to get rip out.  Unfortunately, we can’t afford to go with wood floors in these rooms so I reluctantly settled on carpet. Although it’s nice and soft on your toes, I’ve always had a problem with carpet. It stains easily, collects dust, can feel dated (depending on the color), and absorbs smells.

Over the last few weeks I started researching carpets online and visiting carpeting stores to see what’s out there. I quickly started to realize WOW the options for carpets are so much more extensive than I realized and most of it is GORGEOUS!

I know you don’t believe me, but let me show you what’s out there and how you can use carpet to make a statement in your room.

Villanova Residence - living room traditional living room

First of all, this room is gorgeous! The patterned carpet helps tie everything in and is the one of the main statement pieces in the room.

Same room - different look eclectic dining room

Oh, the drama!! I’m loving this dramatic, decorative carpet in this dining room.  The carpet pulls in all the colors and makes this dining room ultra fabulous.

Master Suite and Bath Collection traditional bedroom

I’m kinda jealous that I didn’t think of this for my master bedroom. Don’t get me wrong; I love my hardwood floors, but this carpet just fits this room so perfectly. It makes the room!

Greenwich Residence traditional bedroom
Although this is still to0 wild for me, I do like that they paired this bold carpet with more classic pieces like the tufted headboard, elegant lamp, and wooden dresser.
Great Rooms traditional living room

This is a bit more classic, but still a bit “out of the box” from what I’m used to. I really love the patterned carpet or “sculptured piles” as it’s officially called. This is actually the style I’m going after for our rooms.

What do YOU think? Do you still feel carpet is dated or have I opened your eyes to a whole know world??

Favorite Posts of the Week – 2/27 Edition

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I’m so happy March is upon us…it’s my favorite month of the year. The weather is just gorgeous in Miami, there are lots of fun outdoor events to attend, and I get to celebrate another birthday!

Let’s get to my favorite posts from the week of February 27th:

My home office gets a lot of use. I occasionally work from home, and frequently do some late night work from there as well. We’ve done a decent job decorating the room in greys, whites and pops of green. However, after seeing this office – described as heaven’s front office – I’m thinking of doing a white-out redo! Check out Virginia’s blog – Live Love DIY – to see more of this redo, and check out the back of the office chair.

When I was planning my wedding I learned how important lighting is to help set the mood for the night. Up lighting in a color that helps accentuate your color scheme ties the whole room together. Monogram lighting is like the cherry on top. I personally didn’t have monogram lighting, but that’s only becuase I hadn’t seen this one featured on Style Me Pretty. How cute is this?

I’m fascinated by furniture referbs. My sister-in-law, Fit Chick on the Fly, recently completed a gorgeous project for her master bedroom that I’m hoping she’ll post soon, but for now here’s an amazing dresser refurbished for a baby nursery. I love the lace feature on the drawers and it seems like it’s SUPER easy to accomplish. Just lay the lace down and spray over it!!! Check out the full story on The Stories A & Z and little B.

I’m kinda over the rustic wedding trend. I guess it depends on the setting, but for the most part I’m desiring to see some super luxurious, glam weddings. This week Style Me Pretty featured an elegant wedding themed after Alice In Wonderland that really caught my eye. The tablescape created for the reception was so elegant and colorful. The lighting, mostly candlelight, creates an ultra romantic vibe.

I love this cake featured on Hostess with the Mostess! My birthday is coming up so what if I make my own super girly pink cake? I think it’s a great idea!

DIY: Multi-media Artwork

As you’re probably starting to tell, I’m a wannabe artist. I have a small collection of acrylic paints, inexpensive brushes, and a few canvas boards sitting in my closet for that moment where I get a bit of inspiration. I have a few pieces of “artwork” that I created around the house like the Iconic Monuments sketches I created for our guest bathroom.

Early last year when I first discovered Pinterest, I started to collect inspiration for my next project. I’ve loved the bird trend since my wedding in 2009 and wanted to create something fun and colorful for my guest bedroom.

I pulled inspiration from several places – use of yellowed pages as a background, the way the cute birds were perched on a branch, and the playful design of the flowers.

Where do YOU find your inspiration?

If you want to pull off this cool background let me recommend Mod Podge. Overall it wasn’t an easy task, but what I found was the best method was to layout the pattern for your background, then use the Mod Podge to paste the pages to the canvas, and once that dries brush a coat of Mod Podge to secure all of the paper edges down. Once that’s dry then you can begin to paint over it.

Do YOU have experience with creating multi-media artwork? Do YOU have any tips for me??

P.S. Sorry the images aren’t that great; our camera broke and so I’m stuck using my camera phone.

Favorite posts of the Week – 1/14 Edition

Wow, this week flew by! My workload is starting to pick  back up so I’ve had a few late nights, but staying dedicated to blogging! 2012 is the year of the BLOG! lol

Anyway, here is a round up of my favorite posts for the week. Enjoy!

This Dallas home tour featured on Houzz.com is amazing. The Martini Room pictured is fabulous (I can’t imagine a martini room NOT being fabulous) — that chandelier makes the room! That funky mirror in the dining room is to die for and goes perfectly with the lamps on the buffet. And to make you even more jealous top it off who wouldn’t want that spacious closet?!?! There are definitely many pin-worthy pictures in this post!

I’m really into inspiration boards. I’ve used them a few times for events I have had the pleasure of helping friends and family plan, but haven’t had an opportunity to create one for a home decorating project. In this post Beth from Home Stories A to Z created a lovely inspiration board for her new half bath. I can’t wait to see how the tile wall turns out and if she can find a mirror as gorgeous as the one on her board.

The folks at Storkie.com have selected Tangerine as the Color of the Year for 2012, and I’m actually loving the combinations they’re suggesting, especially Tangerine and Pink.  I think the color scheme is beautiful for showers, birthday parties for adults or children, and even a spring/summer wedding. Someone on Polyvore is even getting in on the action and created a fashion board inspired by this bright color. Would YOU wear tangerine?

I don’t have kids, but follow several event blogs that feature kids parties. This week I saw an adorable tween spa party full of pedicures, mud masks, and sugar scrubs. According to the post, the stationery package is available to purchase on Etsy making this party easy to reproduce! A few months back I also pinned this adorable spa party for little girls – it was the cutest! Btw, isn’t that hombre pink cake in the tween post adorable? I’ve been obsessed with those types of cakes for a few weeks now. You can check out a few other hombre cake ideas on my Adventures in Baking Pinterest board.

DIY: Iconic Monument Artwork

A few months ago I was inspired by this artwork Alaina from Live Creating Yourself hung above her couch, and decided I’d try to recreate my own Big Ben and Eiffel Tower for my guest bathroom.

What do you think?

The Blogosphere – Favorite posts of the Week

I have a deep love for blogs. There are so many amazing ideas and points of view out there — I can literally spend hours reading blogs and searching for new, fun blogs to follow. My love first started when I was planning my wedding. Now, although I still follow some of the same wedding blogs (for fun), my Google Reader is filled with blogs on fashion, home decorating, and travel.

Many people ask me what blogs I follow, so I thought it might be fun to share with you my favorite blog posts each week.

Here are my favorite posts from the week of January 2nd:

I love DIY projects. I have a list of projects to tackle this year and just added this fun DIY Yarn Chandelier to my list. This is perfect for parties or even unique decor around the house (maybe over the dining room table in more subdued colors?). Check it out and let me know what other uses YOU think these chandeliers might have.

I love Target’s on-going collaborations with fashion designers. It’s great to have the opportunity to buy and wear pieces created by amazing fashion designers, BUT without breaking the bank. This week The Budget Babe was all over Target’s  next collection debuting in February – Jason Wu for Target. Check out all of her posts here, here, and here.

I’m always looking for cool color combinations . This week Coco+Kelley featured a beautiful combination of aquamarine and navy blue. Check out the post to see how they make this color scheme work in the home and as a cute outfit. Earlier this summer I was on a mission to find inspiration for our patio which I wanted to decorate in blues and corals. What color combos are YOU into lately?

I’ve been obsessed with kitchens lately – especially since I might be embarking on a kitchen redo of my own (more on that soon). This particular kitchen featured on La Dolce Vita is AMAZING! Seriously how beautiful is that globe chandelier, the bright breakfast nook, and those mirrored cabinet doors?

This is so domestic of me, but seriously my favorite post of the week was Kitchen Pantry Makeovers by Home Stories A to Z. How amazing are those pantries? You can pull great ideas from each and every pantry featured in the post. I love the idea of the chalkboard labels on the jars and bottles, the door racks, and the labeled wicker baskets that help organize those random sized items that always look messy. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

How cool are the chalkboard lables on those jars?
