Favorite Posts of the Week – 5/4 Edition

My weekly round-ups are back!

Let’s just get right to it. Here are my favorite posts from the week of April 30th:

A Par-Tee for your golfer

My hubbie is an avid golfer and so this golf-themed Father’s Day party caught my eye. Of course, Mike and I aren’t parents yet, but this is definitely going into my Pinterest vault for the future. Loving the plaid design on the cake, and the printables are just perfect.

Girly, girl Princess Party

I’m a TOTAL girl inside and out so this party featured on Hostess with the Mostess had me wishing I was 5 years old again.  Actually, considering my obsession with Kate Middleton this party would still be fitting for my next  birthday party. Seriously though, how adorable is this birthday party? The Royal Princess Tutu’s (I want one!), elegant, monogrammed welcome easel, and glass slipper candy favors. The party was flawless and I’m sure tons of fun for the little girls who joined in on the fun.

Practical and Cute

Love this cute little find by MadeByGirl during her stop at the Traditional Home party at the New York Design Center. Take a a look at the rest of her post for photos of lovely vignettes, funky chairs, and more.

Inspiration everywhere, anywhere

Inspiration can come from anywhere.  I know we’ve all heard that before, but Chassity from Look Linger Love really showed us how it’s done. She created art inspired by some of her favorite things from her closet. I LOVE this idea and really want to try it myself. What do you think of Chassity’s source of inspiration?

Royal Wedding Fever (One year later)

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m still kinda obsessed over Wills and Kate and still dream about their fairytale wedding. Now that we’re coming up on their 1 year wedding anniversary I’m starting to feel some nostalgia over last year’s beautiful ceremony at Westminster Abbey. That day, I woke up at 6am to watch (and cry) live – texting back and forth with my mom and sisters about the dress, the guests, Wills and Harry joking at the alter, and everything in between.

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite highlights from the 2011 Royal Wedding:

The moment Kate stepped out of the car and saw the thousands gathered to watch her get married…

Pippa helps her big sis get ready to enter the Abbey

The perfect ceremony location. How amazing is Westminster Abbey? Love those tall trees along the aisle. Although, I’m sure the guests who had to sit behind those weren’t that happy.

The Bride and her father walking down the aisle followed by the bridal party.

The moment when Harry looked back and saw that Kate was just feet away from them. He then whispered something into William’s ear and you could see that William had to try HARD not to turn around to take a peek at his bride.

Harry's sneak peek

The crowd gets their first glimpse of them as man and wife — the crowd goes wild!

The happy couple

There’s nothing NOT to love about this moment…the kiss and the flower girl.

The anticipated kiss and annoyed flower girl

Such a cute surprise and ending to the wedding. Simply adorable.

Favorite Posts of the Week – 2/20 Edition

As you can tell by the silence on Casa Martinez this week, I’ve been a little busy. Last weekend I went to Disney World and Legoland to celebrate my nephew’s 8th birthday. We had a great time, but was a pretty tiring fun-filled weekend. Then on Tuesday morning I had to wake up bright and early to be a good citizen and report to jury duty. It was touch-and-go there for a few hours, but thankfully my stint in jury duty only lasted one day. Needless to say these events threw off my entire week!

Without further ado, let’s get to my favorite posts for the week of February 20th:

I love Key West so when I saw this fun, beach-casual wedding held at the Southernmost House I melted. Key West is a very unique place filled with many interesting characters and stories – from Ernest Hemingway and his cats, to the roosters that share the sidewalks with humans, to the fascinating stories about pirates and ghosts. It’s a place that my husband and I are very fond of and have spent several special moments there (our first trip together was to Key West and we’ve celebrated three New Years there).

So apparently my home decorating style is called “Transitional” which I only learned this week through Houzz.com. It’s sort of funny because I never felt like my style was really Modern, Traditional, or  Eclectic. I like bits and pieces of each style to represent my tastes, and most importantly putting something together that feels homey and comfortable.  Houzz’s defines Transitional style as “blends the comfort and warmth of traditional design with the clean profiles and understated colors of the contemporary look”, but also says that it can really be combination of any decorating style as long as it casual and comfortable. As you see on their post, Transitional style uses neutrals, but by no means does that mean dull — there are fun pieces, pops of color, and patterns that keep this style interesting.

What do YOU think? Is the Transitional style for those who are indecisive? Or do you think it’s a way to enjoy each style and represent the different facets of your personality?

I’ve been following Lily for a few months now and I really like her attainable, budget friendly style. Honestly, the style of some of the blogs I follow either aren’t realistic from a day-to-day perspective (aka too funky or uncomfortable) or are just out of my budget range; however, Lily keeps it real. I love that she always shares where she purchased her pieces which are usually places like Old Navy, Gap, Marshalls, and Forever 21. TOTALLY, TOTALLY reasonable!

Keep it up Lily!

For the past two years my Christmas decor has been an elegant combination of silver and gold. Both shades feel classic and timeless and so the combination, well done,  is just spectacular. However, after the Holiday season I pack away this amazing combo which is not to be seen again for another 11 months.

I love Houzz’s post on how to master the mix of gold and silver around your home despite the seasons. I prefer the combinations that include a shade of white which helps balance the bold statement you’re making with the gold and silver and neutralizes the space.

Favorite Posts of the Week: The Love Edition

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a sweet Valentine’s week.  My hubbie and I had a nice surf-and-turf dinner at home followed by a quiet night of TV watching. It was actually pretty perfect for a Tuesday night.

Although my hubbie and I had a quiet Valentine’s day I definitely got inspiration from the blog world for something more elaborate next year…or even for a random, romantic night any other day of the year.

Here are some of the sweetest and loveliest posts from the week of February 13th:

“Love”ly fashions

Reese Witherspoon was in the spirit this week when she stepped out in NYC in a cute heart-patterned dress. The Frugal Fashionista helps those of us on a budget recreate Reese’s look (although the dress she found is a bird-pattern…which satisfies my bird obsession, but doesn’t go with our love theme). Also, love the pop of red which screams “v-day”.  How much do you love the studded bag the Frugal Fashionista found similar to the one Reese is wearing? Love it!

Sweet home decor

Loving this bathroom makeover featured on DomestiKated Life.  Originally posted by AB Chao, the bathroom showcases a few cool pieces that you don’t usually find in a bathroom like a monogrammed shower curtain, framed word art, a runner (rug), and, um, Polaroid pictures taped to the wall. How does that hold up with all that humidity in the air? This bathroom design is pretty funky, but there is something sweet about it. What do YOU think?

I seriously want a monogrammed shower curtain – like now!

Showing some PDA

This adorable post from Spearmint Baby is a pregnancy shoot while she was at 34 weeks. I love the winter/snow theme. I actually don’t usually like pregnancy photos because I’m not a fan of the bare belly shots and so the fact that she’s bundled up is absolutely adorable and so sweet.

I’m definitely going to try to recreate this one with my hubbie during my next ski trip (preggers or not).

Feed him something sweet

Craving this adorable cocktail perfect for a romantic night in. This recipe featured on Style Me Pretty includes chocolate and marshmallows as main ingredients…seriously, what’s not to love? I know my hubbie will chug it down!

Valentine's Day Cockatil by Sugar and Charm

How dainty are these cupcakes featured on Kara’s Party Ideas? I’m loving the light blue, pink, and red combination (which I’ve seen a lot in home decor lately too) and the unique designs on each cupcake. This is definitely something that’s going on my Adventures in Baking board on Pinterest!

I hope everyone had a great week! The weather in Miami has been grey and rainy for the past few days so I’m glad the week is coming to a close.

There were a ton of inspirational posts this week which made it difficult to narrow down my favorites. I hope you enjoy! Here are my favorites for the week of February 6th:

Mike and I have a furbaby and so the day that we have a real baby we’ll need to recreate this picture I found on Chic & Cheap Nursery. When I stumbled upon this earlier this week I pinned it to my “Bebe” board and in less than 20 minutes had over 100 repins. People crazy for babies and dogs.

I loved so much of Sarah Lederman’s home tour featured on the Glitter Guide. I got very excited when I read that she lives in Miami Beach, and totally loved the clean and casual-sophisticated vibe she’s created in her apartment. Sarah uses lots of whites, beiges, and browns throughout her home with a few pops of color (POC) in light tones of pink, blue, and green. I really like the use of books as little vignettes in her office, living room, and entry.

Love the styling of this entry way table

Apparently, Sarah shares my obsession with Etsy (honestly, who doesn’t?) and had these maps custom made by a seller on Etsy. I love the idea and love the styling of these frames even more.

Another thing I’m excited about is that I was introduced to a new blog as Sarah is a fashion/home blogger. She’s been added to my Google Reader! Check her out at Chevron & Stripes.

If you’ve ever contemplated a destination wedding, this one featured on Style Me Pretty will convince you in a heartbeat. This spiritual wedding was set in the island of Moorea (west of Tahiti) in French Polynesia. Mike and I just went to Hawaii in December so this post made me yearn for our return to the beautiful, friendly islands of the Pacific Ocean.

Do yourself a favor and just click through to to A Diary of Lovely’s post about her ideal cottage home. EVERYTHING about this English cottage will make you wish you were living a quaint, farm life with your hubbie, a few goats and a pig. (Okay, that’s a big commitment, maybe just imagine how quiet and  beautiful that life could be.)

Happy Friday to all!

It’s finally Friday and I couldn’t be more relieved. I’ve enjoyed reading the blogs this week to help me escape the hectic work week (even if it’s just for a few minutes at a time).

Here are my favorites from the week of January 31st:

I’ve been working on creating a romantic, serene master bedroom at Casa Martinez for the past year or so. We’ve come a long way from ugly brown carpets to beautiful hardwood floors and dated vertical blinds to romantic, sheer curtains. However, one trouble spot the hubbie and I cannot conquer is keeping our nightstands clutter-free. This week Houzz.com inspires us to maintain beautiful nightstands free of mess with a few helpful tips.

I love DIY projects! Well I love pinning them, but one day I’ll actually start creating more of what I’m pinning. This week Home Stories A to Z featured a pallet DIY project that’s absolutely adorable. I’ve noticed pallet projects are really trendy now (probably perpetuated through Pinterest), but this one really caught my eye.  My sister-in-law (aka Fit Chick on the Fly) loves pallet DIYs and has created a few new nice pieces for her house. Are YOU obsessed with pallet projects?
I L-O-V-E this pallet DIY project!

In Miami, it’s basically springtime; and it’s my favorite time of the year! The days are warm (not horribly humid) and the nights have a cool(ish) breeze. It’s a perfect time of the year to start bringing out your pastels. When I think spring, I think pastels. On Wednesday, Pepper Design Blog posted their Pastel Style Board highlighting some trends for spring 2012. Warning they use terms like “sorbet”, “cantaloupe”, and “honeydew” to describe some of the hot spring colors which left me craving something sweet. This is my favorite look out of the bunch – which is perfect for a Sunday brunch or even some drinks with friends on a Friday night.

Just two weeks ago my bff Suzell launched her own blog – Susy Home Maker. The blog will chronicle her life as she tackles home remodeling, marathon training, and – her passion – traveling. She’s tons of fun and some of the things that happen to her are pretty hysterical so I’m certain you’ll thoroughly enjoy catching up with her through her blog. This week, she got me thinking about my “Travel Bucket List” and where I want my travels to take me. What do you think about her travel plans? Check her out and leave her a comment welcoming her to the world of blogging. 🙂

Where would you rather be right now?

New Year! A look back at 2011.

Hey People!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated all of you on the goings-on at Casa Martinez. 2011 was a great year full of personal and professional success, jet-setting around the USA, welcoming new babies into the world (not our own), and celebrating new proclamations of love (attended 6 weddings). Busy, busy…

From CasaMartinez

Wow, I almost forgot how much fun we had this past year. And double wow – we racked up a TON of miles this year!! Hawaii, North Carolina, Utah, New York, California, Jersey, and Philly. How did we manage to get any work done? LOL

I have high hopes for 2012 – looking forward to what’s in store at Casa Martinez!

Happy New Year!!!
