Favorite Posts of the Week: The Love Edition

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a sweet Valentine’s week.  My hubbie and I had a nice surf-and-turf dinner at home followed by a quiet night of TV watching. It was actually pretty perfect for a Tuesday night.

Although my hubbie and I had a quiet Valentine’s day I definitely got inspiration from the blog world for something more elaborate next year…or even for a random, romantic night any other day of the year.

Here are some of the sweetest and loveliest posts from the week of February 13th:

“Love”ly fashions

Reese Witherspoon was in the spirit this week when she stepped out in NYC in a cute heart-patterned dress. The Frugal Fashionista helps those of us on a budget recreate Reese’s look (although the dress she found is a bird-pattern…which satisfies my bird obsession, but doesn’t go with our love theme). Also, love the pop of red which screams “v-day”.  How much do you love the studded bag the Frugal Fashionista found similar to the one Reese is wearing? Love it!

Sweet home decor

Loving this bathroom makeover featured on DomestiKated Life.  Originally posted by AB Chao, the bathroom showcases a few cool pieces that you don’t usually find in a bathroom like a monogrammed shower curtain, framed word art, a runner (rug), and, um, Polaroid pictures taped to the wall. How does that hold up with all that humidity in the air? This bathroom design is pretty funky, but there is something sweet about it. What do YOU think?

I seriously want a monogrammed shower curtain – like now!

Showing some PDA

This adorable post from Spearmint Baby is a pregnancy shoot while she was at 34 weeks. I love the winter/snow theme. I actually don’t usually like pregnancy photos because I’m not a fan of the bare belly shots and so the fact that she’s bundled up is absolutely adorable and so sweet.

I’m definitely going to try to recreate this one with my hubbie during my next ski trip (preggers or not).

Feed him something sweet

Craving this adorable cocktail perfect for a romantic night in. This recipe featured on Style Me Pretty includes chocolate and marshmallows as main ingredients…seriously, what’s not to love? I know my hubbie will chug it down!

Valentine's Day Cockatil by Sugar and Charm

How dainty are these cupcakes featured on Kara’s Party Ideas? I’m loving the light blue, pink, and red combination (which I’ve seen a lot in home decor lately too) and the unique designs on each cupcake. This is definitely something that’s going on my Adventures in Baking board on Pinterest!

Things that make OUR house a home

Last year I saw some really cool blogs that were made up of just pictures. One blog was a visual documentary of this person’s life over the course of the year. He would take one picture a day and post it on the blog as a visual representation of his day. After some searching and digging through my email archives – I believe this is it – and he’s still doing it!

I love the idea of using an image to convey an emotion or capture a moment. Although, I cannot commit to posting a picture every day I thought it would be fun to share with you the little things around Casa Martinez that make our house a home (OUR home)!

Engagement Pictures

We went on a great adventure today with our fabulous photographers, Marlyne and Alex. We met at the entrance to Key Biscayne at 10:30am and after waiting out the rain we started shooting at about 11:30am on Virginia Key. There’s HUGE potential for some really cool pictures, but before I give away too much here are some hints – couch, tall grass, bug spray, and sand.

The second half of our engagement session involved our new boat, the Miami River, and some rusty metal.

Hopefully Marlyne and Alex will give us a sneak peak this week which we will share with you all!

A game of hangman anyone?

Every little girl dreams of the day she will become engaged. Of course everything is perfect – he’s the perfect guy, you’re wearing the perfect outfit, and you both say the perfect things.  For me that day came on November 27, 2008.

Mike and I were in Puerto Rico for the 2nd Annual Popper Thanksgiving. We spent 3 days in the sun – tanning, paddle boarding, and drinking tiny Medalla Lights. Apparently, Mike also spent those days shuffling a diamond ring between him and his father.  Mike was waiting for the perfect opportunity to propose. I was completely oblivious.

Finally on Thanksgiving night after everyone had gone to bed Mike and I decided to play a game of hangman like we had done the night before.  We guessed song titles, movie titles, and celebrity names.  On Mike’s last turn he drew several lines on the chalkboard.  I started with the usuals, L – S – A, and finally had spelled out “Vanessa, Will You M A _ _ Me?” My heart was racing because I knew what was going on, but wanted to finish spelling it all out. Mike also began to get anxious. Then I pointed out that I thought I know the fourth word, but it was missing a letter.  He looked at the chalkboard counting out the letters on his fingers and realized he was in fact missing a letter. He added it in and I guessed two more letters: R and Y.

“Vanessa, Will You Marry Me?”

The Proposal

The Proposal

I gasped as Mike unveiled a ring box he had hidden beneath a baseball cap on the counter. I put on the ring and jumped up to give him a big hug as I was still numb with shock.

The excitement got the best of me and I didn’t sleep for the next few days!
