Favorite Posts of the Week: The Love Edition

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a sweet Valentine’s week.  My hubbie and I had a nice surf-and-turf dinner at home followed by a quiet night of TV watching. It was actually pretty perfect for a Tuesday night.

Although my hubbie and I had a quiet Valentine’s day I definitely got inspiration from the blog world for something more elaborate next year…or even for a random, romantic night any other day of the year.

Here are some of the sweetest and loveliest posts from the week of February 13th:

“Love”ly fashions

Reese Witherspoon was in the spirit this week when she stepped out in NYC in a cute heart-patterned dress. The Frugal Fashionista helps those of us on a budget recreate Reese’s look (although the dress she found is a bird-pattern…which satisfies my bird obsession, but doesn’t go with our love theme). Also, love the pop of red which screams “v-day”.  How much do you love the studded bag the Frugal Fashionista found similar to the one Reese is wearing? Love it!

Sweet home decor

Loving this bathroom makeover featured on DomestiKated Life.  Originally posted by AB Chao, the bathroom showcases a few cool pieces that you don’t usually find in a bathroom like a monogrammed shower curtain, framed word art, a runner (rug), and, um, Polaroid pictures taped to the wall. How does that hold up with all that humidity in the air? This bathroom design is pretty funky, but there is something sweet about it. What do YOU think?

I seriously want a monogrammed shower curtain – like now!

Showing some PDA

This adorable post from Spearmint Baby is a pregnancy shoot while she was at 34 weeks. I love the winter/snow theme. I actually don’t usually like pregnancy photos because I’m not a fan of the bare belly shots and so the fact that she’s bundled up is absolutely adorable and so sweet.

I’m definitely going to try to recreate this one with my hubbie during my next ski trip (preggers or not).

Feed him something sweet

Craving this adorable cocktail perfect for a romantic night in. This recipe featured on Style Me Pretty includes chocolate and marshmallows as main ingredients…seriously, what’s not to love? I know my hubbie will chug it down!

Valentine's Day Cockatil by Sugar and Charm

How dainty are these cupcakes featured on Kara’s Party Ideas? I’m loving the light blue, pink, and red combination (which I’ve seen a lot in home decor lately too) and the unique designs on each cupcake. This is definitely something that’s going on my Adventures in Baking board on Pinterest!

Happy Friday to all!

It’s finally Friday and I couldn’t be more relieved. I’ve enjoyed reading the blogs this week to help me escape the hectic work week (even if it’s just for a few minutes at a time).

Here are my favorites from the week of January 31st:

I’ve been working on creating a romantic, serene master bedroom at Casa Martinez for the past year or so. We’ve come a long way from ugly brown carpets to beautiful hardwood floors and dated vertical blinds to romantic, sheer curtains. However, one trouble spot the hubbie and I cannot conquer is keeping our nightstands clutter-free. This week Houzz.com inspires us to maintain beautiful nightstands free of mess with a few helpful tips.

I love DIY projects! Well I love pinning them, but one day I’ll actually start creating more of what I’m pinning. This week Home Stories A to Z featured a pallet DIY project that’s absolutely adorable. I’ve noticed pallet projects are really trendy now (probably perpetuated through Pinterest), but this one really caught my eye.  My sister-in-law (aka Fit Chick on the Fly) loves pallet DIYs and has created a few new nice pieces for her house. Are YOU obsessed with pallet projects?
I L-O-V-E this pallet DIY project!

In Miami, it’s basically springtime; and it’s my favorite time of the year! The days are warm (not horribly humid) and the nights have a cool(ish) breeze. It’s a perfect time of the year to start bringing out your pastels. When I think spring, I think pastels. On Wednesday, Pepper Design Blog posted their Pastel Style Board highlighting some trends for spring 2012. Warning they use terms like “sorbet”, “cantaloupe”, and “honeydew” to describe some of the hot spring colors which left me craving something sweet. This is my favorite look out of the bunch – which is perfect for a Sunday brunch or even some drinks with friends on a Friday night.

Just two weeks ago my bff Suzell launched her own blog – Susy Home Maker. The blog will chronicle her life as she tackles home remodeling, marathon training, and – her passion – traveling. She’s tons of fun and some of the things that happen to her are pretty hysterical so I’m certain you’ll thoroughly enjoy catching up with her through her blog. This week, she got me thinking about my “Travel Bucket List” and where I want my travels to take me. What do you think about her travel plans? Check her out and leave her a comment welcoming her to the world of blogging. 🙂

Where would you rather be right now?

Red Carpet Inspiration – Trends from SAGs and Golden Globes

My favorite part of Hollywood’s award season is spending the days after the awards shows pouring over the different red carpet looks. Although many of the designers celebrities wear on the red carpet are out of reach for us “average” girls, I always find fun in pulling inspiration from these celebrity looks and trying to find more budget-friendly alternatives.

I have a wedding coming up in March and so I’m in the market for a new dress! I took at look at my favorite dresses from the SAG and Golden Globes and found similar looks on some of my favorite sites. (I’ve done all the leg-work for you…you’re welcome!)

Racey Lacey

Lace is HUGE this year! Michelle Williams wore an adorable, coral dress that I included as one of my favorite looks. I found a way to wear this hot trend – also worn by Emma Stone, Stacy Keibler, and Jessica Biel – in a cocktail dress or formal dress.

Sequin in a deep V

Even in her Cherrios cheerleading uniform, Naya Rivera is pretty hot. She really rocked it last weekend at the SAG awards in this deep V sequin dress. Also in sequin this award season – Nicole Richie and Maria Menounos both wore this hot trend at the Golden Globes.

Formal - Scala via edressme.com
Ruched (and one shoulder)

Hello super duper sexy Lea Michele! She’s obviously trying to break out of her geeky, Rachel Berry shell – and WOW! She’s owning the sexpot look with that red carpet pose! I really love BOTH of these trends – one shoulder and ruched. The BCBGMaxazria formal option is totally something I would see myself wearing to the upcoming March wedding. What do YOU think?

Baby got Back..(open back, that is!)

Clarie Danes must HATE this, but every time I see her I’m taken back to the days where she was Angela on My So Called Life. One of my absolute favorite shows…ever! Clarie always looks amazing and has fabulous style; her Golden Globes look was no disappointment. The front was gorgeous, but the back…WOW! I’m loving the cocktail dress I found from BCBGMaxazria – it actually pulls of two of the trends we’ve talked about today!

Favorite posts of the Week – 1/27 Double Edition

Okay, okay…I slacked off last week. So this week my list is going to be longer and more fabulous! So, let’s get to it….

Here are my favorite posts from the last TWO weeks:

So you know you watch House Hunters and Property Virgins on HGTV living vicariously through those home buyers as they search for the “perfect” master bedroom, two car garage, or outdoor living space. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t in a position to trade our current digs for a brand new home. This week Houzz.com is here to help! In a post titled “How to Improve the Home You Have” they featured tips on how to knock down walls to attain that “open concept” feel, or enhance your curb appeal by adding a pop of color to your front door, or (my fav) make a bunch of holes in your exterior walls and add floor to ceiling windows!!

Staying Put by Duo Dickinson traditional living room

Okay, fine – I admit it! I still follow wedding blogs. The weddings featured on Style Me Pretty are just too beautiful to not gush over on a daily basis. However, this Hindu/Jewish/Christian Fusion wedding stood out to me. The colors, the tradition, ugh…just gorgeous. I’ve attended Jewish and Christian weddings, but seriously can someone please invite me to a Hindu wedding?

Seriously, how amazing is this?

It’s never too early to start collecting inspiration for your future baby’s nursery, right? Everyone on Pinterest knows what I mean. Well anyway….this week Apartment Therapy featured a Music Inspired Nursery which had a modern twist. I loved that it had a more mature feel with the striped carpet, black-white color scheme with only pops of color, and modern crib and chair. How do you feel about this  “mature” nursery? BTW – how cute is the name Mila? A potential add to my running baby name list? Hmmm…

A linen dress, sun-kissed skin, a warm breeze in the air, and a cold glass of lemonade….this is what i picture when I read through this post by Coco+Kelley.  All of the rooms featured in this post are bright, sunny, and simple with a few fun rattan accents – chairs, beach bags, etc – and a few unique pieces – like a zebra patterned rug – that add some fun to the rooms. Here’s their roundup for how to achieve this look in your home:

Coco+Kelley: Interiors to Inspire

Have you ever stumbled upon something online and thought “Hey! That was my idea”? Well this week I saw this website featured on a fashion blog and almost died. I swear I thought of this idea when I first married my husband. I used to live in a house full of women where we shared clothes, shoes, jewelry and, best of all, helped critique each others outfits. BUT, when I got married and moved in with my hubbie I basically had to fend for myself (for the first time) and figure out my own outfit choices. One day while pondering this fact I thought “wouldn’t it be great if I could upload a picture of myself and have people comment on whether they liked the outfit or not AND even provide suggestions”? Well the GENIUSES at Fashionfy had the same idea and actually made it come to fruition!!! Check it out and let me know what you think!

Maybe it’s becuase I’m a workaholic, but I’m always drawn to lovely office spaces.  This week La Dolce Vita featured two very different home office spaces – and I’m having such a hard time deciding which one I love more. Option #1 – an elegant, dramatic, feminine space that just screams I’m a powerful business woman or Option #2 – a clean, zen space where you can spend many productive hours getting lots of work done.

Which of these two is more your style?

Have a great weekend everyone!

My business travel essentials

I travel fairly often for work and so I’m constantly perfecting my business travel style. Often times my trips are day trips which require me to get up before the sun and don’t get me back home until way after my bed time. These 16 hour trips call for practical and comfortable travel style, but I feel like I can’t ever get it right.

After a 16 hour day trip earlier this week, I couldn’t help but think of what my ideal business travel “survival kit” should consist of.

Let’s talk about shoes!

If you’re traveling for business most of the time it means you’re meeting with clients or going to an important meeting that requires you to “dress up”. I’m a heels kind-of-girl and so I always wear heels to a meeting, BUT that isn’t very comfortable when traveling. So, first on my survival kit – Light-weight, comfortable flats.  Ideal for easily slipping off and on at the Security check-points and running like mad to catch your flight.

Carry on bags

Fortunately while on day trips I don’t have to lug suitcase with me, but it almost makes it more difficult because I then have to figure out a way to bring all my essentials. Laptop, Notebook, Makeup, Reading Material (I always take non-work related reading to de-stress), etc. I end up pulling out my biggest tote bag and stuffing it with tons of stuff, as well as my everyday laptop bag which is already stuffed with a bunch of stuff I don’t need to travel with. Survival kit item #2 – Large, comfortable tote bag. I’m aiming for ONE where I can carry my laptop, notebook, and personal items.

Get comfortable!

When taking late flights back home, I usually bring along my travel pillow. I’m not a fan of the neck pillow – I just don’t get how having your neck hang to the side is comfortable. However, I did find this comfy pillow from Brookstone which fits right up against your neck on your shoulder. I usually just use it like a pillow up against the window.

The  basics (essentials)

Here are a few other things that help keep me comfortable, organized, and stress-free.

Travel document holder – my sister gave me a monogrammed one from Pottery Barn a few years ago for Christmas. Super helpful in keeping my travel documents in one place, and helps me not be a hot mess when in the TSA line. I’m really liking these colorful, thin and AMAZINGLY priced document holders from The Container Store.

The Container Store | Capri Document Holders

Leisure reading material– Ugh. After a day of travel, prepping for your meetings, attending meetings, etc what’s better than taking a bit during your flights to just relax? Pick up a People magazine and give your mind a break and read about Jennifer Aniston’s millionth pregnancy or look through endless pages of what Kim Kardashian wore while shopping. Better yet – bring a nice book. I just started reading The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Water! – Before, during, and after. During longggg travel days I like to stay hydrated because it makes me feel good (especially if I have to eat airport food). BUT, also because I know flying can dehydrate you so…it’s a win win. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to also bring along some Airborne to drop into your water just in case your throat starts to feel a little scratchy. I had a cougher next to me on a flight last week and had to pop vitamin C’s for the days that followed.

What’s on YOUR list of travel essentials? What else should I bring along to make my business travel more comfy?

Great finds on Etsy

Now that I spend all my free time planning the wedding I spend tons of time online scouring blogs, websites, and online stores.  After spending countless hours online one site I became increasingly impressed with is Etsy.com.  This online community of artists allows people to sell and by handmade crafts of ALL types. It brings people from all over the world (150 countries to be exact) to exchange unique products.

Several ideas and ve ndors for my wedding I found through Etsy.  Here are a few of my favorite sellers and products:
